Amazon review
The best album by Deep Purple, a hard rock band that is still hugely popular here in Japan, along with Led Zeppelin and Queen. It's quite interesting to hear how the performance, which was a process of trial and error based on the various backbones brought by each member, eventually converged into a hard rock centered around the guitar playing of Ritchie Blackmore and the shouts of Ian Gillan, who can be said to be the originator of heavy metal singing. Once you remove the focus on hard rock, the variety of songs from the early days are also quite worth listening to. The best of this Rhino edition, which has a reputation for sound quality and song selection. Of course it's perfect as an introductory guide, but it's also useful for long-time fans who want to listen to all of their signature songs. (Tomoo Yamaguchi)
