The RPG "Dragon Quest" series has become the focus of people's attention, causing a social phenomenon every time a new release is released. This work is a remake of the fifth game released in 1992 for PlayStation2. It features a variety of innovations that will feel fresh even to those who have played the previous game.
The protagonist travels with his father and eventually grows into a young man, and this is an adventure story told across three generations of parents and children. I miss how they included an episode where you were forced to make the ultimate choice as the most important turning point in the gameplay. Of course, first-time players will be surprised by the epic story.
The production staff is the familiar golden trio: Yuji Horii for scenario and game design, Akira Toriyama for character design, and Koichi Sugiyama for music. Art direction Shintaro Majima has joined this project, presenting a new image of Dragon Quest.
The biggest change in this work is the graphics, which are drawn using the latest technology. Not only the fields but also the monsters and other characters are rendered in 3D, making it easier to play and successfully reproducing the power of the game world and the unique movements of the monsters. The rounded horizon gives you a sense of the vastness of the world, and the animations of monsters sleeping or running away during battles will add excitement to the game. It is also worth noting that the game features orchestral music performed by the NHK Symphony Orchestra for the first time in the series. The included "'Dragon Quest VIII' Premium Video Disc" contains the latest footage of 'Dragon Quest VIII', which was released for the first time in the world. (Hideyuki Matsumoto)
