Brand Introduction
Hamilton was established in 1892 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA. The brand's first pocket watch, the Broadway Limited, gained fame as a tool for providing accurate train times. In 1914, Hamilton was selected as a supplier for the U.S. Army, and from 1919, it provided time measurement services for ski events and the U.S. Postal Service. In the 1930s, it was used as the official watch for many airlines. During World War II in 1947, Hamilton temporarily ceased consumer sales and manufactured nearly one million military watches. In 1970, it introduced the world's first digital watch, the Pulsure, and was acquired by the SSIH group, consisting of Omega, Tissot, and Longines, in 1977. The company was incorporated into SMH in 1983, and Hamilton now operates as part of the Swatch Group.
